Groupon: Get the Best Deal in New York Today! Key West beaches are small and narrow compared to beaches on the mainland of Florida, but visitors can still enjoy a great beach vacation here in Key West. Our largest beaches are Smathers Beach and Higgs Beach, both located on the south side of the island facing Cuba. There are various other  Key West beachesbut they are by far much smaller and less convenient. If you’re driving and you want to stop off at the beach, then your best bet is Smathers Beach. There’s free parking, a rarity in Key West, across the street under a row of palm trees. You have to have your car out of there by 11pm so don’t plan on parking there for anything other than beach-going or other daytime activities.

They also have beach chair rentals. Drive-up vendors also park here every day and sell things like Italian Ice and soft drinks. If it’s picnic tables and shelter you want at the beach, head for Higgs Beach, which has several pagodas with picnic tables behind the beach. There’s also an Italian restaurant behind Higgs Beach if you want to dine in style and not leave the beach area. It’s pricey though so you may want to consider making use of those free picnic tables while you’re at the beach.
